Civil ceremony
By the law, the civil ceremony in Italy, must take place in a town hall or in a property purchased by the local government only.
After the reading, the rings are exchanged and then the witnesses sign the wedding act as do the bride and groom.
According to Italian law, a divorced woman or a widow cannot remarry unless 300 days have passed from the date of the decree absolute or decease of the previous spouse.
Symbolic foods for good luck include twists of fried dough, powdered with sugar, called bow ties wanda, and Italian wedding candy.
After dinner, everyone is served slices of wedding cake with cups of coffee, espresso or other beverages.
During the wedding receptions friends of the groom usually sneak away to play tricks on the new couple.
A band providing dance music for the wedding guests may play tarantellas.
Religious ceremony
In Italy, a Catholic ceremony can only be performed in a Church but, in the case of one of the parties being divorced, the Catholic Church will not allow you to remarry in church.
All documentation must then be sent to the diocese in Italy for approval; at least one member of the couple must be Catholic.
