Type of event: Carnivale/ festival of the “cicerchia”
Event date: during February
Location: Termini, Massa Lubrense
The Termini Carnivale is an event that has taken place over the last 25 years during the period of Carnevale, and in particular, to celebrate the mardi gras. The event in general, consists of a week of festivity and offers a parade of floats of a different theme each year. From 2005, the Cultural Association “Minerva” occupies itself with the organisation of the event.
Undisputed protagonists of the Termini Carnivale are the allegorical floats, which in the course of the years have become more and more beautiful. They serve to retain today as yesterday and conserve the same fascination that embodies the spirit of the Carnevale, that is, joy and the desire of being together.
The floats are designed and manufactured right in Termini, in the area of Massa Lubrese and their preparation commences many months before by the locals of the area.
Following the parade, in piazza Santa Croce in Termini, there is music and animation with masks by various artists, degustation of traditional gastronomical products, pizza tasting and the “Festival of the Cicerchia”. The cicerchia are flavoursome chickpeas that on the occasion of the festival come prepared according to an ancient Neapolitan culinary tradition: as a type of salad dressed with oil and lemon; with potatoes or with pasta.
