Along with the amazing countryside, in Sorrento it is possible to be delighted by the typical local cuisine.
The local gastronomy consists of simple and delicious meals; the typical sun shined terraced-lands allow a varied and genuine agriculture that provides several products that the local community learned to use and work with them in an excellent way.
The tomatoes and the local aromatic basil cultivation along with the famous cheeses made in the peninsula area, for example, fresh and matured cheeses and the well known mozzarella that goes fresh and sliced among the tomatoes in the very famous 'Caprese Salad', all ingredients utilized also for the 'Gnocchi alla Sorrentina', delicious potato dumplings, or the home made ravioli, with ricotta cheese inside, both in mozzarella and tomato sauce with basil.
Most of the typical local meals are cooked using extra-virgin olive oil D.O.P. and the Gragnano pasta that keep totally traditional several main-course like pasta with shrimps and courgettes, or seafood linguine.
The sea of the Gulf of Naples is a good fishing area with various fishes and seafood: alici, sgombri, merluzzi, sarde, tonni, aguglie, vongole, cozze e lupini.
The seafood is more used for pasta cooking while fish is usually cooked grilled, steamed or as soups.
Along the Sorrento coast it’s suggested to taste the fantastic Neapolitan pastry, in particular the appetizing 'rum baba', the lemon cream sponge cakes or the Neapolitan 'Pastiera' the typical Easter cake.
All the lemon and orange trees are a steady feature of the Sorrento peninsula, indeed especially with the lemons the local gastronomy has created several tasty and among those the famous 'Limoncello', this is the most local liqueur all around the world.
Many cultivations of grapes grows around local lands where special white wines as Falanghina and Aglianico are produced.
Not forgetting the Sorrento peninsula is as well known as Naples for its pizza, in particular the village of Vico Equense is renowned to be the foundation-house of the meter pizza.
